In a messy victory over Moapa Valley on Saturday the Snow Canyon Warriors Green secured the #2 seed in the upcoming playoffs starting Saturday the 9th at PineView High School.
The Warrior Defense proved to be the deciding factor once again, creating multiple turnovers. SC started the game kicking off to the Pirates. On the first play of the ensuing drive # 6 Taylor Hill recovered a fumble giving the Warrior Offense excellent field position. Austin Staheli in the shotgun led the Warriors on a 6 play drive that was capped off by a 2 yard pass in the corner of the end zone to #27 Zack Stover for a touchdown.
SC kicked off to the Pirates once again. Moapa's offense was more productive on its second possession when #42 of the Pirates found an opening outside to put the Warriors with their backs against the end zone. The Pirates turned it over on downs as the Warrior D held strong.
Austin Staheli standing in the end zone was able to deliver a rocket to #28 Josh Miller for a 48 yard completion putting the Warriors at mid field to end the quarter up 6-0. The Warrior O moved the ball consistently until a pair of questionable illegal motion calls stalled the drive. The Warrior D did it's job and kept the Pirates scoreless as the half ran out.
Moapa Valley kicked off to start the second half, but a little confusion by the front line of the return team resulted in a turnover. Moapa was able to capitalize on the exceptional field position as they moved the ball 45 yards for their eventual only score of the contest. Warrior D Lineman Johnny Chalmers was able to break through the line and block the kick for the extra point.
On the ensuing kickoff Josh Miller gave the Warriors excellent field position on the Pirate 48 yard line. The Warrior field general Austin Staheli connected with Miller again on an audible for a 45 yard TD pass. Staheli's second of the game.
The contest ended with a score of 6-12 Warriors, but the stats show the real story of the game.
#5 Austin Staheli was 8 for 13 passing with 2 TD's and 3 INT's. He also had 10 yards rushing and 1 INT.
#27 Zach Stover had 2 catches for 22 yards and 1 TOUCHDOWN
#28 Josh Miller had 113 yards receiving,12 return yards, 1 TOUCH DOWN and 1 Fumble Recovery.
#8 Seth Smith had 47 yards rushing on 6 attempts giving him 8 yards per carry. He also had 2 picks.
#31 Zac Ferguson had 45 yards rushing on 3 attempts averaging 15 yards per carry.
#6 Taylor Hill had 1 reception for 20 yards and 1 Fumble Recovery.
#51 Spencer Simmons had an INT
Total Yards Offense = 269
Interceptions = 4
Fumble Recoveries = 2
If SC can clean up a couple of little mistakes we are confident we can beat the Pirates again this Saturday.
Playoffs begin at 4:30 Snow Canyon Green vs Moapa Valley @ Pine View High School. Please get your boys to practice this week. We will be practicing 4-6 on the middle school softball field. Please make arrangements to arrive at PineView HS at least 1 hour prior to game time.
